OUR

SERVICES

Rape Crisis Center

405-701- 5550

The Rape Crisis Center offers a 24 hour, 7 day a week crisis intervention, advocacy and support for women, men, and adolescents who have been victimized by sexual violence. The Rape Crisis Center has available Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (S.A.N.E) who have completed training as forensic nurses to do the rape kit examination for the purpose of collecting evidence. The Rape Response Advocate is a trained volunteer who is available, upon request through the Crisis Line, to meet rape victims at the Rape Crisis Center or hospital emergency room. They provide the victim and their family with support, information and appropriate referral for additional services. If requested, an Advocate can accompany the person who was sexually assaulted to court, provide support and information during the legal proceedings. (Rape Response Advocates and S.A.N.E. are subject to the availability of volunteers.) Bilingual Sexual Violence Response Specialists are available at the Rape Crisis Center to provide advocacy, support, information and referral, follow up and court advocacy to Spanish speaking individuals who have been victimized by sexual violence.

Children’s Program

Children’s needs have often been overlooked in the family’s battle to survive violence and homelessness. Advocates at the shelter focus attention back on the children to provide them with support and hope, and to strengthen the mother’s ability to parent in stressful situations. Through individual and group contact with families, the Advocates seek to bolster self concepts, develop coping skills and refer to necessary services in the community. There is discussion about the dynamics of domestic violence and encouragement to let go of the family keeping secret. Children are invited to use play and acting as a way of communicating feelings and are accepted as they do so.

WRC Domestic Violence Shelter

405-701-5497

Since 1980, the WRC Domestic Violence Shelter has provided safe, temporary housing for women and their children who have been victimized by domestic violence, sexual violence, and stalking. Residents receive individual and group support, DV education, advocacy, information and referral on housing, job training, legal aid and financial assistance. They also benefit from the understanding and support of the staff and other residents.

We believe that women have the right to live in safety, to be treated with dignity, to make choices and to hope.

Mission

Since 1975, The Women’s Resource Center has been helping women live better lives. Over the years we have redefined our goals to meet the changing needs of the community. Our primary work is to help persons victimized by domestic and sexual violence. The WRC Domestic Violence Shelter, The Rape Crisis Center, and the crisis lines fill an urgent need because no other local group or organization provides these services.

Crime against women affects all of us and education is the first step toward prevention. We believe that information will make people more sensitive to the needs of victims of violence, more willing to take a hard look at the causes of these crimes, and better able to find ways to prevent them.

WRC acts as a clearinghouse for information on many issues of interest to women. The phone calls we receive each day give us insight into the lives of the women in our community. We hope to use this insight to expand our programs and services. We are dedicated to the belief that women in our community deserve an organization that can offer practical solutions to their problems, celebrate their achievements and expand opportunities for the next generations.

Victims will also be given information to help in decision making regarding the lethality of the situation, as well as steps that may be taken to keep them and their children safe.

Callers receive confidential crisis intervention, referrals, and information about sexual violence, at any hour of the day or night, 365 days a year.
